SAFE,EFFECTIVEHYGIENE AGENTSEvery livestock producer knows that keeping animals healthy is neither simple nor easy. When an animal%u2019s exposure to pathogens %u201coutweighs%u201d its immune resources, the results are clinical illness. One of the keys to keeping livestock healthy is reducing disease causing pathogens at their source using proper hygiene procedures.Implementing effective hygiene protocols can reduce the load of pathogens livestock are exposed to every day. An effective hygiene protocol gives the immune system the advantage it needs to keep animals healthy, saving producers time and money by reducing treatments. The success of a hygiene program will depend on if protocols are carried out correctly, consistently and how they are measured for effectiveness. Rinse equipment with lukewarm water (110%u00b0F) to remove organic material before washing.2. Soak equipment in hot water (140%u00b0F) containing a chlorinated alkaline detergent such as Chlor-A-Foam%u2122 for a minimum of 5 minutes.3. Vigorously wash the calf feeding equipment with a brush for one to two minutes.4. Rinse with cold water and then rinse a second time using an acidic solution with a pH of 2 to 3.5. Apply a chlorine dioxide hygiene product such as HabiStat%u2122 to both the inside and outside of the calf feeding equipment. Allow the calf feeding equipment to thoroughly dry. Do not stack buckets on concrete floors or boards. Bottles and nipples should be air-dried on a drying rack.6. If more than two hours have passed before use, apply a chlorine dioxide hygiene product such as HabiStat%u2122 to both the inside and the outside of the calf feeding equipment before use. CALF PEN HYGIENE PROTOCOLUSING LOW PRESSURE FOAM1. Remove all the bedding and organic material from the calf pens. 2. Thoroughly wet the calf pens with water, starting at the highest and ending with the lowest point of the calf pen. 3. Apply a chlorinated alkaline detergent such as Chlor-A-Foam%u2122 to the calf pens using either a hand-held airless or an air-driven foamer and hot water (140%u00b0F). 4. Go from low to high and apply the foam evenly to all the surfaces of the calf pen. 5. Soak 10 to 15 minutes (don%u2019t allow foam to dry). 6. Rinse with water, going from high to low. 7. Allow the pens to dry. 8. Apply a chlorine dioxide hygiene product such as HabiStat%u2122going from the highest point to the lowest point of the calf pen. Allow to thoroughly air dry before re-bedding the pen.Scan the QR code to watch a video in which Dr. Ryan Leiterman discusses how to mix HabiStat%u2122.livestock1.888.376.6777 %u2022 www.crystalcreeknatural.com | 95
